WARDOGS LMGs and Shotguns: M249, PKM, MP43 and M500
Compare WARDOGS LMGs and shotguns for covering teammates, defending approaches and fighting indoors, including ammunition, recorded prices and kit costs.
Should you take an LMG or a shotgun?
Take an LMG for a sustained-fire support job and compare a shotgun for a short-range fight. The choice starts with where you expect to engage. A weapon built around a doorway still needs a safe route to that doorway.

Which LMGs and shotguns are listed?
The community catalog identifies M249 SAW and PKM as LMGs, with MP43 and M500 as shotguns. Compare their records and exact ammunition before buying.
| Weapon | Caliber | Recorded price |
|---|---|---|
| M249 SAW | 5.56x45mm | $3,200 |
| M500 | 12 Gauge | $1,200 |
| MP43 | 12 Gauge | $400 |
| PKM | 7.62x54mm | $4,500 |
The recorded prices exclude ammunition and the rest of the kit. The separate M12G entry has incomplete classification fields, so inspect its item record before treating it as another standard shotgun choice.
How should you support teammates with an LMG?
Cover the lane they need to cross or the approach they need held. Communicate the target area, avoid firing without a useful purpose and tell teammates when you need to reload or move.
Sustained fire can consume the ammunition that makes the role useful. Plan resupply and a fallback before choosing a position. The ammunition guide helps compare carried supplies.
M249 or PKM: what should you compare?
Compare the complete ammunition load and the firing behavior you can control. The community M249 record uses 5.56×45, while PKM uses 7.62×54. Both list 7.5 kg before the rest of the kit.
Those labels do not establish a damage winner or interchangeable magazines with a squadmate’s rifle. Keep target protection and range constant in the TTK calculator, then consider the weight of the actual supply you need.

When is a shotgun useful indoors?
When the actual range and target matchup suit the selected ammunition, and you can manage follow-up shots. Check the room layout and the next approach rather than assuming every close-range hit is decisive.
An SMG or assault rifle may be a better comparison when the same route includes open terrain. Do not buy around an untested one-shot claim.
How do you keep either role affordable?
Buy for the task, preserve a route to resupply and keep money for replacement. An LMG with excess ammunition or a heavily upgraded shotgun can cost much more than the base weapon price.
Review the loadout guide and cash economy. If the plan repeatedly fails before the weapon gets to its useful position, change the route or role before increasing the spend.
