WARDOGS Progression: XP, Unlocks and Player Skills
Understand WARDOGS cash, role XP and equipment unlocks, and learn why the planned Player Skills system is separate from the features available at launch.
How does progression work in WARDOGS?
Separate the cash you spend from the XP and requirements that unlock equipment. A higher rank can give access to an item without paying for every future purchase. Check both the unlock requirement and the current equipment price before building a loadout around it.

The progression tables help find a recorded unlock. The equipment database then shows the itemβs available fields. Use the requirement displayed in game to decide what you can buy now.
What is the difference between cash, XP and Skill Points?
| System | What it is for | What to do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Cash | Buying equipment for each life | Budget the complete kit and a replacement |
| XP and rank | Progression and equipment access | Look up the track and requirement for a desired item |
| Unlock cost | A separate requirement shown by some community records | Distinguish it from the per-purchase item price |
| Skill Points | Planned Player Skills progression | Do not assume the system is available at launch |
| Gold bars | Seasonal cosmetic purchases described by BULKHEAD | Check the current exchange rate before converting cash |
This distinction prevents a common budgeting error: having the rank for an item does not mean the next life using it is free. Read the economy guide before spending toward an expensive unlock.
How fast do you level up in Early Access?
Reaching Level 20 takes a median of 20 to 25 hours of active, objective-focused play. While pre-release playtests allowed rapid leveling, BULKHEADβs Early Access launch balance steepens the progression curve from Level 10 through Level 25 to establish a deliberate mid-game climb.
Levels 1 through 9 remain fast onboarding ranks designed to unlock foundational gear within 30 to 60 minutes per level. Starting at Level 10, the required XP per tier scales sharply over pre-release baselines:
| Milestone Level | Median Time | XP Curve Shift | Core Unlocks & Tactical Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 5 | 3β4 hours | Baseline | Basic optics, angled foregrips, entry medical items |
| Level 10 | 7β9 hours | +40% slower | Faction assault rifles (Galil), enhanced armor plates |
| Level 15 | 13β16 hours | +66% slower | Squad support weapons, high-capacity magazines |
| Level 20 | 20β25 hours | +100% slower | Elite assault platforms (M4), Operator Backpack, heavy explosives |
| Level 25 | 30β35 hours | +124% slower | Advanced weapon attachments, specialized tactical gear |
| Level 35 | 45β55 hours | Specialized climb | Main Battle Tank (L2A6), advanced rotary gunships |
| Level 90 | 120+ hours | Endgame commitment | Self-Propelled Artillery (SPH-2), Deagle sidearm |
This steepening ensures that mid-tier equipment represents meaningful battlefield experience rather than a trivial sprint. Players who capture objectives, revive teammates, and transport infantry earn consistent bonus XP that shortens this climb.
Where are high-tier armored vehicles and artillery unlocked?
High-tier combat vehicles are strictly gated behind dedicated specialization ladders rather than early general career progression. BULKHEAD restructured these milestones for the Early Access launch to prevent vehicle spam and reward committed role specialists:
- Heavy Tank (L2A6) β Driver Level 35 ($500,000): Moved out of the general Career track into the dedicated Driver ladder. Unlocking the gameβs heaviest armor platform requires ranking up Driver through transport runs, vehicular combat, and mechanized support. It unlocks alongside the Humvee [Minigun], giving veteran drivers a full armored spectrum.
- Self-Propelled Artillery (SPH-2) β Career Level 90 ($400,000): Moved from Level 55 to Level 90 in the Career ladder. With 155mm high-explosive shells capable of cross-map devastation, artillery is treated as an endgame asset. Gating it at Level 90 (alongside the Deagle sidearm) ensures batteries are manned by players with deep map knowledge and ballistic proficiency.
Because vehicle spawns are shared and can be crewed by squadmates, a squad does not need every member to grind Driver 35. Designate dedicated drivers and armor specialists within your team to optimize shared squad resources.
Which role tracks can you look up?
The community tables list Infantry, Medic, Pilot, Driver, Recon and Support, plus a separate Career table. Find the role associated with the item you want and compare the displayed level and cost with your current account.
Choose a useful job you can perform rather than an imagined fastest-leveling route. Objective work, medical help and transport are rewarded team actions. The cash and teamwork guide explains where those jobs fit without requiring you to lead the kill count.
Are Player Skills available at launch?
No. BULKHEADβs Player Skills announcement explicitly says they are not available at launch. It describes a system to be introduced during Early Access, with Skill Points earned through play and invested in role improvements.
Examples in the announcement include faster reviving, better weapon handling and flying farther. Those examples describe planned skills; they are not launch abilities you should expect to select before your first match.
This video is playing in the corner.
Will those skills last across seasons?
The announced goal is permanent account value across seasons. That goal applies to the planned Player Skills system. It does not establish a universal no-reset rule for every currency, item or server setting.
Read the current Early Access announcement before making a decision around future permanence. The original roadmap also discusses challenges, the Black Market and the Vault as parts of a developing metagame; a roadmap chapter is not proof that its menu is live.
What should a new player progress toward first?
Choose one item that supports a role you already enjoy and can afford to use. Check its requirement, compare its complete kit cost and decide what it changes in your next life.
For infantry, that may be a weapon or compatible attachment you can handle better. For support, it may be equipment that lets you complete a needed task. Use the loadout guide to connect the unlock with an actual job, then return to the first-match route if the basic deployment loop is still unfamiliar.
